In response to the news that the European Court of Justice has invalidated the EU-U.S. Privacy Shield, BritishAmerican Business Chief Executive, Duncan Edwards said:
鈥Today鈥檚 decision on听the EU-U.S.听Privacy Shield听creates听a great deal of uncertainty for transatlantic听businesses.听The lawful flow of personal data is one of the cornerstones of the transatlantic economy across all sectors 鈥 from IT to agriculture,听manufacturing to professional services.听听
鈥While taking note of the positive decision on Standard听Contractual听Clauses,听the Privacy听Shield听decision will impact听Small, and Medium-Sized Enterprises听disproportionately, as they often听lack the resources and legal expertise to navigate an uncertain landscape.听Striking down听the Privacy Shield听also听adds听further complications听to听the听uncertain听future of data transfers between the UK and the EU.听
鈥淲e urge the U.S.听and the EU to come together and quickly find a solution to听the Privacy Shield听in order to provide legal clarity and allow businesses to continue their day to day operations.鈥听
